The state is not DISY’s loot
Statement by AKEL C.C. Spokesperson Giorgos Koukoumas
10 September 2021, AKEL C.C. Press Office, Nicosia
In an unprecedented institutional breach, the Minister of Energy sent invitations to the Board of the Cyprus Electricity Authority (AHK) for a Board meeting to be convened in the presence of the President of the ruling DISY party. Good thing, of course, that she didn’t call the meeting of AHK at the DISY central offices. Someone should explain to the Minister and the government as a whole what the elementary institutional rules provide for and that the state is not DISY’s loot.
For days now, AKEL has been calling on the Minister and the government to provide answers with regards the issue of electricity prices, which are literally crushing households and small and medium-sized businesses. We have indeed submitted a specific proposal for the targeted absorption of the increase in the price of electricity from the reserves of AHK, as was the case during the pandemic period. Instead of dealing with this issue, the Minister of Energy is putting institutions at the service of the communication policy of the ruling DISY party.
