The government is trapped in dilemmas and deadlocks it itself has created

AKEL C.C. Spokesperson Stefanos Stefanou replies to the Government Spokesman

AKEL C.C. Press Office, 22nd September 2020, Nicosia

The General Secretary of AKEL made no attack on the government. In his statements, A. Kyprianou twice stressed that the period we are going through is critical and that is precisely why he did not expand on the Party’s assessments of the government’s handlings.

It is the government itself that is waging attacks. And it does so seeking to silence any voice that points out the failures, contradictions and big empty talk of the government’s policy on sanctions. No matter what the government says, it does not take much effort for someone to come to the conclusion that Cyprus was alone in its attempt for sanctions to be imposed (on Turkey) and that the government is trapped in dilemmas and deadlocks that it itself has created with its policy.

AKEL expresses its concern about the developments and, as the General Secretary of the Party stated, will wait for the EU Summit to express its position.
