Our side’s confrontation with the UN never led to positive results

We all expect the UN to act impartially and objectively, on the basis of the principles of the United Nations and the Organization’s Resolutions on Cyprus. This is what we also expect with regards the opening of the checkpoints, which are currently being blocked due to the stance of the Tatar-Ozerzay pseudo-government.
At the same time, we believe that any reactions from our side must be careful not to give the impression that the Greek Cypriot side is in confrontation with the UN. It must also be borne in mind that the crucial stage of the renewal of the mandate of the UN Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus is imminent. It should be recalled that in the last Resolution, although the worst had been averted, alarming and dangerous references had intruded.
It is historically proven that our side’s confrontation with the UN has never led to positive results. What is needed right now is the creation of the correct climate, as well as the resumption for the resumption of the negotiation procedure, after three whole years of complete inertia and stagnation.
