Once again the government’s grandiose announcements aren’t shown to be true

The Foreign Minister had stated that an initiative is imminent to defuse the situation in the Eastern Mediterranean. In the end, the initiative represents an attempt by the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy to draw up a joint statement with the US Secretary of State with a message to Turkey to cooperate. Obviously, a joint EU-US statement is not be underestimated if it has a clear and correct content. Even if that were to be the case however, it is very far from constituting an initiative to defuse the explosive situation in the Eastern Mediterranean and to put an end to Turkey’s aggression, as the Foreign Minister Mr. Christodoulides announced. After all, it is not statements and declarations of the international community that are lacking in the face of Turkey’s aggression.

What is certain is that once again the government’s big grandiose announcements are not shown to be true, just as after all it has not been shown to be true that any powerful allies would supposedly shield Cyprus from Turkey’s provocative actions.

For sure, the government of Cyprus is not responsible for the negative balance of forces and the enormous interests of the powerful centres of the worlds that are preventing a decisive response on the part of the international community towards Turkey. However, the government is to blame when it cultivates illusions and delusions among the Cypriot people that lead to disillusionments.
