Community diversity a source of beauty and richness
Statement of Georgos Loucaides, AKEL C.C. Press Spokesperson
AKEL C.C. Press Office, 3rd April 2015, Nicosia
AKEL greets and welcomes the democratic verdict of the school student community of the English School, given that for the first time since the reintegration of Turkish Cypriot pupils in the school a Turkish Cypriot student has been elected as President of the Central Student’s Council.
This development reflects both the progress that has been recorded in the relations between the school pupils of both communities.
On the other hand, despite whatever specific features may have influenced this positive development, it has been reaffirmed that the different community origin within a favourable environment is not a problem nor a threat, but a source of beauty and richness.
It reaffirms that Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots can coexist peacefully, cooperate and build relations of friendship and trust that surpass any Community diversity.
