Government new attempts to vindicate fascist coup d’ etat

According to press reports, the Anastasiades-DISY Rally party government has taken a decision and is proceeding to the erection of a “heroes” monument to the fallen commandos who on the day of the treacherous coup d’état took part in the attack on the Presidential Palace which had as its goal the assassination of Archbishop Makarios and the overthrow and dissolution of the Republic of Cyprus.
To the extent that the Government confirms these reports, this act will present another enormous provocation to the democratic sentiments of the overwhelming majority of our people.
The Anastasiades – Rally party government, continuing the attempts to vindicate the treacherous and criminal activity of Grivas and EOKA B, has no reservations whatsoever to systematically seek the glorification into heroes of those who turned their weapons against Democracy, the Republic of Cyprus and the elected President Archbishop Makarios III.
Such an action by the Anastasiades – Rally party government will represent a deliberate act of reigniting the division of our people, at a time when the goal for maximum consensus is more than necessary.
