AKEL workshop on bullying

3 March 2022, AKEL C.C. Press Office, Nicosia

The one-day conference organised by AKEL within the framework of its anti-bullying campaign took place yesterday.

The event was addressed by the General Secretary of the Central Committee of AKEL, Stefanos Stefanou.

Among the panel of speakers was Dr Panagiotis Stavrinides, Associate Professor at the Department of Psychology of the University of Cyprus, who discussed the phenomenon of bullying.

Interventions were made by AKEL MEP Giorgos Georgiou and AKEL MP Andreas Pasiourtides.

All speakers stressed the urgent need for a comprehensive policy to tackle bullying with preventive actions, victim support programmes, intervention programmes for perpetrators and witnesses of such phenomena. Equally necessary is the approval of legislation to suppress bullying phenomena.

AKEL will continue its anti-bullying efforts, both inside and outside Parliament, so that the campaign slogan “We say no to all forms of bullying” becomes a reality.

The conference was attended by MPs, the Commissioner for Administration and Human Rights, Maria Lottidi, the President of the Authority for Combating Addictions, Dr Christos Minas, the Director of Secondary and General Education, Dr Kyprianos Louis, EDON Youth organisation, as well as representatives of organisations, agencies and various associations.
