Ambitions divide them, policies unite them
20 October 2026, AKEL C.C. Press Office, Nicosia
It comes as no surprise that Nicos Anastasiades has called for a preliminary agreement between DISY and Nicos Christodoulides ahead of the second round of the 2028 presidential elections. Clearly, Nikos Anastasiades is seeking to ensure harmony between his own political camp and that of his political protégé.
After all, it is well known that Nikos Christodoulides himself has repeatedly declared himself a proud successor to the policies of the DISY–Anastasiades government. The disagreements between the President and DISY begin with personal ambitions and end there. In terms of policies, one is simply following on from the other. Policies that have fostered corruption and entanglement/interwoven interests in the country, made it a laughing stock internationally and exacerbated economic inequalities.
It is precisely these policies that AKEL wishes to change, striving for Progressive Change in 2028 by rallying and forging a broad social alliance.
