AKEL reiterates its demand for the convening of the National Council

President Christodoulides’ refusal to convene the National Council, as AKEL has been requesting since last week, shows an attitude that we would like to believe does not constitute a decision to set the body aside.

The ongoing negotiating deadlock, the new ultimatums attempted by the occupying force Turkey in Pyla, Agios Dometios and Deryneia are some of the issues that underline the need to convene the National Council. The National Council is the place to conduct a collective discussion and the submission of the positions and assessments of each political force on the Cyprus problem. The President of the Republic obviously has the final say on decisions, as well as the responsibility for them.

AKEL reiterates its request for the National Council to be convened.
