AKEL on the resignation of Syllouris from the Presidency of the House of Representatives

The resignation of Mr. Syllouris from the position of President of the House of Representatives came with a delay. What has been revealed in recent days has added to previous revelations made about corruption and interwoven interests issues. These revelations are destroying the trust that state officials should inspire in the institutions they serve.
So far as the new President of the House of Representatives is concerned, AKEL believes that the fact that there is a very short period of time until the parliamentary elections should be taken into account. We consider that the goal must be to find, collectively, a consensual choice for the Presidency of the House of Representatives during this period.
