Erdogan’s presence at the celebrations for the anniversary of the invasion is a blatant provocation to the Cypriot people

The illegal visit of the President of Turkey, T. Erdogan to the occupied territories adds to the ongoing crime of occupation and colonization that Turkey has been committing for half a century on our island. Erdogan’s participation in the celebrations for the tragic anniversary of the 1974 invasion is a blatant provocation to the Cypriot people who, on such days, remember with pain the wounds and devastation the invading Turkish army of Attila left behind.
As for the Erdoğan-Tatar joint stand in favor of a two-state solution and “sovereign equality”, AKEL warns that the Cypriot people will never accept the permanent division of their homeland and will never compromise with the occupational partitionist status quo. The security of Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots and lasting peace on our island presupposes an end to the occupation and division of our common homeland, with a solution to the Cyprus problem on the agreed basis and framework.
