AKEL on Lutte’s arrival: The President must act without footnotes, regressions, experimentations and expediencies

AKEL MP Aristos Damianou statements on ‘Astra’ radio

24th November 2020

When the UN Secretary General’s Special envoy on Cyprus Jane Hall Lutte arrives in Cyprus, President Anastasiades must proceed to make a strong “commitment” to a solution of Bizonal, Bicommunal Federation, to the continuation of the talks from the point they had remained at Crans Montana and to make use of the convergences agreed so far, AKEL MP Aristos Damianou noted.

Speaking to the morning edition of ‘Astra’ radio station, A.Damianou stressed that the President of the Republic must act without any footnotes, regressions, experimentations and serving any expediencies, while he pointed out that the President of the Republic must stop creating terms and preconditions. This, A.Damianou added, must be done in an effective way so as to convince the Secretary General of the United Nations to continue the negotiations. He also accused President Anastasiades of causing enormous damage to the course of the Cyprus problem.

Furthermore, A. Damianou pointed out that the situation surrounding the Cyprus problem has become more difficult after the assumption of the leadership of the Turkish Cypriots by Ersin Tatar, due to the fact that he is a supporter of partition.

At the same time, the AKEL MP and Political Bureau member stressed that what Turkey is doing in the occupied territories is flagrantly violating every notion of international law.
