AKEL – CTP common struggles for a solution to the Cyprus problem

 

 

Statement by the General Secretary of AKEL, Stefanos Stefanou

The common struggles waged by AKEL and the Turkish Cypriot Turkish Republican Party (CTP) for a solution to the Cyprus problem and the development of relations between the two communities, Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot, was underlined by the General Secretary of the C.C. of AKEL Stefanos Stefanou in statements made during a working lunch hosted by AKEL to a delegation of CTP headed by its President Tufan Erhürman.

“This meeting took place within the framework of the contacts and cooperation we have at a very difficult time for the Cyprus problem, so we can make our own contribution as much as possible and to the best of our abilities to the efforts to break the deadlock and to continue the negotiations from the point where they were interrupted at Crans Montana,” Stefanos Stefanou said.

At the same time, the General Secretary of AKEL recalled that “together with the CTP, we have established Working Groups with the aim of implementing joint initiatives and actions to bring the two communities together”. At the same time S.Stefanou pointed out that the two parties “will develop their cooperation in the direction of the solution of the Cyprus problem and the further development of the policy of rapprochement”.

The AKEL delegation also included Toumazos Tsielepis, Head of the Cyprus Problem Office of the C.C. of AKEL, Stavri Kalopsidiotou, member of the Cyprus Problem Office and Elias Demetriou, Head of the AKEL Rapprochement Bureau of the C.C.
