Worker’s right to collective organization and assertion must be protected
8th June 2021, AKEL C.C. Press Office, Nicosia
AKEL stands on the side of the nurses organised in their trade union PASYNO who are defending their right to trade union organization. The attacks nurses are facing that followed the decisions of their trade union organization is a case of anti-trade union and anti-worker behavior on the part of the government and the Ministry of Health.
At the same time, the attempt by various forces to bring back the issue of criminalizing the right to strike, using the public health situation as a pretext, is malicious and can only damage labour and trade union norms.
AKEL sends out the message in every direction that the right of working people to collective organization and assertion must be protected. Otherwise, working people will be at the mercy of the arbitrariness of the employers and powerful economic interests.
The right to strike has been won through struggle and has been enshrined in law.
