Statement by AKEL C.C. Spokesperson Stefanos Stefanou on what is at stake in the Parliamentary Elections

This Sunday’s elections are critical because they will determine which Parliament we will have over the next five years. We believe that the country needs a Parliament that will legislate for the many and not for the interests of the few.
A Parliament that will legislate against the arbitrariness of the banks and powerful financial interests.
A Parliament that will defend the rights of working people, support small and medium enterprises, pursue an environmental policy and guarantee human rights.
A Parliament with a strong Left and a strong AKEL!
At the same time, this Sunday, the resounding message must be sent to the Anastasiades-DISY government that our country can no longer bear their arrogance, corruption and authoritarianism. That the country needs immediate change with a social content. Many forces and circles are talking about change, but people would do well to remember that most of them either supported or cooperated for the election of Nikos Anastasiades, handing over power to the most corrupt government we have ever had.
The Left is the steadfast force on which the people can rely on for change in the governance of the country because it has the consistency, seriousness, programmatic positions and the specific proposals to rid ourselves of the institutional entanglement and corruption of the Anastasiades-DISY government.
AKEL is asking for the vote of citizens so that we can turn the page together and struggle for the Cyprus we deserve.
