Government of golden passports but of forged diplomas too

Yet another of the “excellent of the excellent” of Nikos Anastasiades and ruling DISY has made front page news. The forgery of high school diplomas and university degrees, for which the Commissioner for Volunteerism and Non-Governmental Organizations Yiannakis Yiannaki is accused of, is a serious offence and at the same time discredits the country. The resignation of Y. Yiannakis in no way closes the issue. The government has to give explanations and apologies. Nikos Anastasiades must take a break from DISY’s election campaign, which he has taken over as party leader and provide explanations.
Citizens have the right to know that the government and DISY from the moment they appointed Mr. Yiannaki Volunteerism Commissioner they defended him by every means, both inside and outside Parliament. We recall that AKEL in a letter sent by the General Secretary of AKEL to the Attorney General, in April 2018 called on him to investigate the possibility that his appointment as Volunteerism Commissioner is not legal.
Subsequently, AKEL registered the issue for debate in the Parliamentary Education Affairs Committee, while during the discussion of the 2019 State Budget, AKEL with an amendment it had tabled called for the fund of Mr. Yiannakis’ salary to be held back so that the legality of his appointment could be investigated. Unfortunately, no other political party supported the amendment tabled by AKEL.
Nikos Anastasiades himself, who called the people of the Left “zeros”, is the one who chose to appoint such “excellent of the excellent” who ended up in prison for serious corruption offenses, who ended up forging degrees, who ended up being apportioned criminal responsibilities for the sell-off of the Cyprus Cooperative Bank. The Government of DISY continues to discredit Cyprus every day and insults all our country’s citizens.
In the end, the DISY government isn’t just ‘golden’ passports but also fake diplomas too!
