Statements by Toumazos Tsielepis, Head of the Cyprus Problem Bureau of AKEL
7th October 2020, ‘Astra” radio station
The government must address the UN Security Council and the EU regarding the Turkish announcements for the opening of the coastal area in Varosha, stressed the Head of the Cyprus Problem Bureau of the C.C. of AKEL Toumazos Tsielepis.
Speaking on the morning program of “Astra” radio station, Toumazos Tsielepis pointed out that the Greek Cypriot side must express its readiness in words and deeds for the resumption of talks. He added that these developments are the result of the collapse of the Crans Montana conference. Furthermore, T.Tsielepis noted that there have been no talks for 3.5 years now, stating that we must await the outcome of the voting process in the occupied territories.
- Tsielepis underlined that if the negotiation procedure resumes, then Turkey is obliged to bring back the map that returns Famagusta under Greek Cypriot administration.
He also stressed that Turkey will be cornered when the negotiation procedure resumes, noting that if it continues to behave in this way, Turkey will be the one that will be exposed. As long as this situation continues, new fait accompli will be created, T. Tsielepis emphasized.
