The government ruling forces are living in a virtual reality that has nothing to do with what people are actually living

AKEL C.C. Spokesperson Stefanos Stefanou replies to government spokesman’s statements

AKEL C.C. Press Office, 8th December 2020, Nicosia

AKEL is responsible for what it says and not for what the Government Spokesman understands or wants to understand. With his attack on AKEL yesterday, however, Mr. Kousios confirmed that the government ruling forces are living in a virtual reality that has nothing to do with what people are actually living.

  1. They deny that thousands of small and medium-sized enterprises are being professionally wiped out because of the government’s measures. One wonders how they will take measures to support small and medium-sized businesses when they don’t realize the problems they face?
  2. They do not understand that the contradictory measures being implemented have the opposite effect. Mr. Kousios might possibly be thinking that the virus behaves differently in gyms and small businesses than in malls and churches.
  3. They do not admit that more specifically the measures being applied are deficient in terms of constitutionality and proportionality.

AKEL isn’t saying that no measures should be taken, as the Government Spokesman falsely claimed yesterday. AKEL demands measures that are logical and proportionate, effective, without serving any hidden considerations and with an awareness of the impact they have on society.
