The government must give an answer on the essential questions regarding price hikes

The prevailing situation in the food market is resounding proof that price hikes are suffocating society. The stagnation noted in working people’s incomes and the ongoing increases in the cost of essential goods are forcing people to buy less and pay more.

That is precisely why the government’s insistence on putting obstacles in the way of measures to offer relief to society – which the majority in Parliament approved with the exception of the ruling DISY party – is directed against society itself. The half-measures and fragmented interventions announced are not enough, at a time when the purchasing power of households is collapsing.

Society does not expect long-winded statements and communication games from the government to address its problems. It wants simple answers on the substance.

Will the Automatic Cost of Living Allowance be fully restored or not?

Will the government accept the reduction of the tax on electricity and fuel that was approved by Parliament or not?

Will it abolish the 12% penalty on pensions or not {imposed on those opting to retire at 63]?

The government must provide answers to these questions.
