The government must address the problems in the vaccination program

Statement by AKEL C.C. Spokesperson Stefanos Stefanou

AKEL C.C. Press Office, 8th April 2021, Nicosia

Vaccinating the population is the only way to put a definitive end to the pandemic, save human lives and end once and for all the restrictive measures that are testing the resilience of society and the economy.

Society is concerned about:

  1. The delays being observed in the vaccination program.
  2. The AstraZeneca vaccine and what is being discussed, on which a large part of Cyprus’ vaccination program in Cyprus is based on.
  3. The problems noted in the operation of the vaccination portal.

The government has a responsibility to address these issues. In particular, it must address the problem of securing more vaccines in order for the vaccination program to proceed. Malta, which is also an EU member, is far ahead in its vaccination program than Cyprus.

As a result, there are ways to get more vaccines and the government needs to look at them so as to speed up Cyprus’ vaccination program. We are already entering the tourist season and the epidemiological situation and the population’s vaccination percentage rate are crucial for the arrival of tourists.
