The General Secretary of the Central Committee of AKEL met with the Ambassador of Spain

The General Secretary of the Central Committee of AKEL, Stefanos Stefanou, met today with the Ambassador of Spain, Gabriel Ferrán Carrión. The General Secretary of AKEL was accompanied by Vera Polycarpou, Head of International Relations and European Policy of AKEL.

During the meeting, the General Secretary of AKEL and the Spanish Ambassador discussed the situation in our region and the wider European area.  The need for the policies being pursued to be based on the respect for the principles of international law and not on double standards was stressed.

As far as the Cyprus problem is concerned, Stefanos Stefanou underlined the need for the resumption of the talks, under the auspices of the Secretary General of the United Nations, from where they had remained at Crans Montana, with the aim of reaching a solution of a bizonal, bicommunal federation with political equality.
