The General Secretary of the C.C. of AKEL Stefanos Stefanou participates in the “Europe for the People” Forum

The General Secretary of the C.C. of AKEL, Stefanos Stefanou, departs tomorrow for Brussels where he will participate in the Forum on “Europe for the People”. The Forum is being co-organised by the Belgian Workers’ Party (PTB/PVDA), the Levica Party of Slovenia, the Party of the European Left and AKEL. It is expected to be attended by representatives of numerous political parties of the broad left, trade unionists, environmental activists and a large number of people responding to the open invitation issued by the Forum.

The Forum will include three thematic debates on the issues of peace, security and the respect for international law, the need for a socially just climate and energy transition and the socio-economic rights of the peoples of Europe who are suffering from the austerity policies being implemented, inflation and soaring energy and food prices.

Stefanos Stefanou will speak and introduce the second theme of the Forum “Peace, Security and International Law”, in which he will talk about the 50-year-long Turkish occupation and de facto partition in Cyprus, as well on the situation in the Eastern Mediterranean and Middle East region, where Israel’s genocide against the Palestinians and the ongoing war in Ukraine are raging.

On the sidelines of the Forum, the General Secretary of the Central Committee of AKEL will have meetings with representatives of participating parties and organisations.

Stefanos Stefanou will be accompanied by Vera Polycarpou, member of the C.C. of AKEL and Head of International Relations and European Policy of AKEL.
