The economy is in danger from illegalities and abuses – not from the restoration of constitutional rights

Statement by AKEL Political Bureau member & Head of Economic Policy of AKEL Charis Polycarpou

12 July 2023, AKEL C.C. Press Office, Nicosia

The economy is at risk from illegal actions and abuses – not from the restoration of constitutional rights

The economy and society are not in danger from citizens’ constitutional rights being restored.

They are in danger because of the joint efforts by the Christodoulides Government, the parties that support the Government and DISY to perpetuate illegal actions and abuses against borrowers.

As long as the financial system is allowed to operate with impunity and without any adequate regulation in place, all citizens – depositors, borrowers, guarantors, young couples – will find themselves in uncertainty and be burdened with even greater financial burdens.

The government and DISY, which are currently talking about irresponsibility, do not realise that AKEL’s proposal has won the across the board support of parties and MP’s from all parties – except that is of DISY.
