The controversial National Security Council
Statement by George Loucaides, AKEL C.C Spokesperson
AKEL C.C. Press Office, 2nd June 2014, Nicosia
AKEL comes back to the issue of the institutionally unlawful act by the government to press forward in setting up a group of National Guard officers under the aegis of Mr. Fotis Fotiou, (Note: former Minister of Defence of Anastasiades), given thatthe Anastasiades-DISY Rally
party government is not only keeping silent on the matter, but under the weight of the revelations made, it has given excuses that have nothing to do with the truth. In particular, they invoked a pre-election pledge of Mr. Anastasiades about creating a National Security Council in order to justify their unlawful scheming just to accommodate on of their cronies.
Studying Anastasiades’ election program on Defence issues and generally looking for a relative election commitment on the part of the government we were unable to find any reference with regards the establishment of a National Security Council.
Consequently, along with the huge matter of order arising anyway we now add the clear attempt to mislead the people by the government and ruling forces through the spreading of false allegations.
Unfortunately, the arrogant behaviour of the DISY-Anastasiades government and the attempt to completely overrun the state and its institutions, both public and private such as the banks, is clearly obvious and the scheming to accommodate cronies, have no limits and boundaries.
The in hindsight attempt by DISY party to disassociate itself from the government regarding the events of recent days, does not relieve DISY of responsibilities objectively arising from its participation in the government. Even more so when any differentiation by DISY has not so much got to do about the phenomenon itself of accommodating cronies for “jobs for the boys”, but primarily it concerns its disagreement as to which cronies are being accommodated.
