The Christodoulides government and its budget has generated a general pessimism and disappointment among the people
21 December 2023, AKEL C.C. Press Office, Nicosia
The state budget tabled by the Christodoulides government, which was approved yesterday with the votes of the coalition parties backing the government, along with DISY and the ultra-right ELAM parties, does not offer any answers to the major problems Cypriot society is facing. It does not provide solutions to the housing problem, to the increase in interest rates, to the problems working parents face and to the profound distortions of our country’s developmental model.
Neither the budget, nor the government’s general course provide an answer to the widespread sentiment across Cypriot society, which is reflected in the latest Eurobarometer, which reveals that 60% of Cypriots consider the general situation of our country to be bad. This is a sentiment that reflects the widespread frustration with the Christodoulides government, which continues to move in all directions and is obsessed with communication tricks.
AKEL, with a sense of responsibility towards the people, spoke [in the Parliamentary debate on the 2024 state budget] about the real problems facing the country. AKEL submitted proposals and voted against the budget of the Christodoulides government, which continues on the familiar path that the Anastasiades-DISY decade had pursued.
