The administrative inquiry into the Akamas projects should be handed over to Parliament and the Audit Service

Statement by Christina Nicolaou, Head of AKEL’s Environment Policy

20 December 2023, AKEL C.C. Press Office, Nicosia

AKEL calls on the government, even at the last minute, to fulfill its commitments for absolute transparency: to hand over the administrative investigation carried out in relation to the construction projects in the Akamas National Forest Park to the Parliamentary Committee on the Environment and to the Audit Office in for an audit to be carried out as requested by the relevant Parliamentary Committee.

The refusal to do so on the part of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment and the government raises more questions and intensifies our concerns about the future of Akamas. There are responsibilities and AKEL will not accept any cover-up.
