Judging on the basis of the information we have, the agreement that has been reached on Pyla fulfills the main objective, which was the restoration of the status of the buffer zone in the area, that was violently challenged by the occupation forces last August. The question is, of course, whether what has been agreed will be implemented and respected in practice.

The Pyla issue has confirmed how fragile and insecure the partitionist status quo is. Only a solution to the Cyprus problem, on the agreed basis and framework, can guarantee lasting peace and security for the whole of Cyprus and all Cypriots.
