Statistical Service figures paint a bleak picture

Statement of Eleni Mavrou, AKEL Political Bureau member

AKEL C.C. Press Office, 2nd April 2016, Nicosia

econ downThe government is celebrating the exit from the Memorandum, but the latest figures released by the Statistical Service paint a bleak picture.

  • Employee’s salaries continue to decrease for the 12th consecutive quarter. In the three years of the Memorandum they have fallen overall by 30.6%.
  • This of course concerns those who are lucky and do have a job, given that during these three years some 30,000 jobs have been lost.

Unfortunately the DISY-Anastasiades government does not leave any room for hope that it will change the anti-social policy of vicious austerity it has been pursuing to date.

The time has therefore come for citizens to decide whether they want the continuation of the policies that have turned our country in recent years into one of the most unequal European societies.
