AKEL C.C. Press Office, 2nd November 2020, Nicosia

The General Secretary of the C.C. of AKEL A.Kyprianou had a meeting today with the Prime Minister of Greece Mr. Kyriakos Mitsotakis at Maximou Palace. After the meeting A.Kyprianou stated the following:

“The Greek Government, the Greek political parties and the Greek people are the main pillar of support of the struggle we as the Cypriot people are waging for the liberation and the reunification of our homeland. In this sense, the meetings with the Greek Prime Minister are extremely important. We had an extremely useful and constructive discussion with the Prime Minister of Greece during which we analyzed the current phase, ongoing developments in the Eastern Mediterranean basin and the prospects for resolving the Cyprus problem.

As AKEL we still consider that developments to be extremely critical. Our priority must be first and foremost to resolutely address the Turkish effort to change the basis of the negotiations and in the second stage the beginning of the negotiations with the goal of reaching an agreement on the Cyprus problem.”

The General Secretary of the Central Committee of AKEL is in Athens for meetings with the state and political leadership of Greece, heading an AKEL delegation which includes Toumazos Tsielepis, a member of the Political Bureau of the C.C. of AKEL and Head of the Cyprus Problem Office of the Party and Marina Savva, member of the C.C. of AKEL.

Tomorrow, Tuesday, 3rd November 2020, at 12:00, the AKEL delegation will have a meeting with the President of SYRIZA Alexis Tsipras at the central offices of SYRIZA.
