Statement by the General Secretary of the C.C. of AKEL A.Kyprianou after the meeting with the President of SYRIZA Alexis Tsipras

An AKEL delegation headed by the General Secretary of the C.C. of AKEL Andros Kyprianou had a meeting today with the President of SYRIZA Alexis Tsipras at the central offices of SYRIZA. After the meeting, Andros Kyprianou made the following statement:
“We had a very constructive discussion with the President of SYRIZA and his associates about the situation as it has evolved today on the Cyprus problem. We expressed our concern about the positions being expressed by Turkey with regards the framework for a solution to the Cyprus problem and we made it clear that no deviation whatsoever from the agreed framework as set out in the relevant UN Resolutions and High-Level Agreements can be accepted. That is to say, a solution of a bi-zonal, bi-communal federation with political equality as defined by the relevant resolutions of the UN.
We stressed that initiatives and efforts should be taken that will lead to a resumption of the negotiations as soon as possible, because the longer time goes by so the danger on the ground increases of serious problems being created with regards the efforts to achieve a solution of the Cyprus problem.”
