Solidarity Message of AKEL to the Sudanese Communist Party

Dear comrades,

AKEL condemns the oppression of the Sudanese authorities over the cadres and the political activities of the Sudanese Communist Party. At the same time our Party expresses its full solidarity with the struggle of the Sudanese communists and the people of Sudan for democracy and social justice.

The huge repression of the Sudanese regime; the unfair detentions and trials; the violation of human rights and the victimization of the political struggle are totally condemnable. Furthermore, the recent accusations over cadres of the Sudanese C.P. – due to their just political activities opposing the Sudanese government – under articles of the Criminal Law that also provide death penalty and life imprisonment must awake the defenders of human rights and democracy worldwide.

Thus, we call the international community and the European Union to raise its awareness in this continuing deterioration of the suppression of the Sudanese Authorities over its people. Moreover, we call them to take a clear position over the violations of human rights as well over political and personal freedoms of the Sudanese people.

As AKEL we are going to take practical political steps for raising awareness over the situation in Sudan at many levels internationally.
