Partition is upon us and the government ruling forces are looking for scapegoats

Statement by AKEL C.C. Spokesperson Stefanos Stefanou

AKEL C.C. Press Office, 26th August 2020, Nicosia

Within the framework of the press conference given by the Interior Minister on the passports issue, the Government Spokesman was also employed to attack AKEL in relation to the Cyprus problem.

In the face of the government ruling force’s inability to provide convincing answers with regards their dead-end policy on the Cyprus problem, the Government Spokesman repeated their familiar lies. However, no matter how many lies they may employ, they cannot provide an answer to the following:

  • How has the President of the Republic – because it is indeed an achievement – managed Turkey to receive praise from the UN Secretary General and the EU for its presence at the Crans Montana conference? Since the government can’t attack the UN Secretary General and the EU it attacks AKEL.
  • Can’t the government give an answer as to why Turkey continues to engage in illegal and provocative actions, without suffering any serious political costs?
  • One wonders – where did the government’s claims that the Exclusive Economic Zone has supposedly been shielded go?
  • Where are the sanctions that would hurt Turkey and all the other slogans that the government ruling forces were passionately repeating.

Partition is upon us and the government ruling forces, instead of taking on their responsibilities, are looking for scapegoats.
