On voluntary brigades’ work of the People’s Movement of the Left in the anticorrosion projects in the Solias region

The image, but also the smell of burnt land, several weeks after the most severe environmental destruction suffered by our country, continues to provoke the same intense feelings of deep sadness. We are here as AKEL, as the People’s Movement of the Left, to contribute to the extent possible in the great effort demanded to restore the whole area.

We are here, a big group of volunteers from AKEL, the EDON Youth Organization, PEO Workers Federation, EKA Famers Union and POGO Women’s Organization, assisting the anticorrosion projects that have begun, but which will take at least two years to be completed. The region’s environmental restoration will take many decades. That is why, being here at the site of the disaster, we want to send out again a message for the need of implementing a prevention policy so that we won’t relive such big fires.

We dedicate todays humble voluntary brigade work to the two tragic firefighters who lost their lives combating the devastating fires.
