AKEL calls for mass participation in bicommunal trade union mobilization for peace in Cyprus and the world
AKEL C.C. Press Office, 31st August 2016, Nicosia
The 1st September has been established by the World Federation of Trade Unions (WFTU) as the International Trade Union Day of Action for Peace to honor in this way the memory of the millions of victims of Nazism. For Cyprus, this anniversary has a dual content, given that apart from paying homage to the victims of Nazism and fascism, the commitment to the struggle for peace and the reunification of our country is also reaffirmed. For this reason, the corresponding events that are being organized in Cyprus assume a solid bi-communal character.
On this occasion, the WFTU’s affiliated members in Cyprus, namely PEO, DEV-IS, KTAMS, KTOS, KTOEOS, BES and KOOP-SEN, are organizing tomorrow Thursday, 1st September at 19:00 p.m. this year’s event for Peace in the buffer zone area, outside of the “Home for Cooperation”.
AKEL supports, as it does every year, this event and calls on citizens, both Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots, to participate. The prevalence of peace in Cyprus and in the world is the only way to achieve collective prosperity and progress.
