On the process of nominating the AKEL-Left-New Forces ballot

Despite the difficulties and restrictions caused by the pandemic, AKEL has ensured that the preparation of our election ballot for the May 2021 parliamentary elections will take place through the democratic process provided by the Party statutes with the participation of thousands of members and friends of AKEL and the Left.
Every member and friend of AKEL can nominate candidates for each electoral constituency, by contacting the Party locally or provincially. The Party bodies will subsequently meet to decide how the process will be completed, taking into account the measures that will apply.
This broad participatory process is the best guarantee that the AKEL-Left-New Forces election ballot will meet the expectations of society and our times. It is the best guarantee that it will have a strong ballot, made up of men and women of every generation, of honest and capable people, ready to work both inside and outside Parliament for our country, for the rights of working people, small and medium-sized businesses and the young generation. It is the best guarantee that our fellow citizens will not be left at the mercy of the new economic crisis caused by the pandemic and its handling by the government; that a modern welfare state is built in our country that defends the dignity of the many and not the interests of the privileged few.
Given the measures to protect public health, AKEL will adapt its pre-election activities in the coming months so that what is at stake in the parliamentary elections of May 30, 2021 will reach every Cypriot.
Either the country will sink into the impasses of the final partition of our island, interwoven interests and society’s impoverishment or it will pave the way for the great progressive change that Cyprus and its people need.
