On the forthcoming increase in fees at the Port of Limassol

Statements by AKEL MP Kostas Kosta after the meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on Trade

8 February 2022

We state again that, the Auditor General’s report on the privatization of the commercial activities of Limassol Port dated 5/4/17 is damning, with data and details of the scandalous procedures that were followed until the signing of the contracts.

We consider as unacceptable the fact that, for 4 years now, Parliament has been waiting for the Attorney General to examine the report of the Auditor General to see whether there are criminal or other responsibilities, as the Audit Committee had requested him in May 2018.

And of course, as AKEL, we are waiting to see the Attorney General’s response to the relevant letter sent to him by the General Secretary of AKEL 15 days ago.

For the umpteenth time, we reiterate that what happened with the sale of Limassol Port is a huge scandal, for which the government’s responsibilities are grave. Today the country is paying very dearly for what we were denouncing back then and no one listened to us.
