8 October 2021, AKEL C.C. Press Office, Nicosia
The General Secretary of the Central Committee of AKEL Stefanos Stefanou had a meeting today with the President of the Cyprus Chamber of Shipping Themis Papadopoulos, who was accompanied by the President of the Chamber Thomas Kazakos.
At the meeting, the Party’s General Secretary stressed that the shipping sector is a key pillar of the Cyprus economy, with a significant contribution to the country’s GDP and, above all, with great prospects for the future, which is why AKEL pays particular attention to issues concerning this sector.
The highly qualified human resources we have as a country, with specialization and expertise in relation to shipping issues, the excellent quality of professional services covering all shipping activities, the legislative and tax framework and easy access to important markets within and outside the EU have lifted Cyprus shipping to a very high level.
Finally, the Party’s long-standing support to Cypriot shipping and its readiness to assist in solving problems and promoting the necessary legislative regulations for further strengthening and development of the shipping industry was stressed.
The AKEL delegation included MPs Kostas Kosta and Giannakis Gavriel, who are members of the Parliamentary Transport Committee.
