The issue of the prosecution of a Turkish Cypriot couple raised before the European Commission  

 

AKEL MEP and Vice-President of the Group of the European United Left-Nordic Green Left Neoklis. Sylikiotis raised the issue of the charges against a Turkish Cypriot couple Koray Basdogrultmaci and Cinel Senem Husseyin, before the European Commission. The couple were charged by the occupying authorities for hanging the flag of the Republic of Cyprus in the occupied areas of Cyprus. More specifically, AKEL MEP Neoklis. Sylikiotis calls on the European Commission to give a reply as to whether it will immediately denounce the unacceptable action of the illegal regime and whether it will immediately call on the Turkish authorities to dismiss the illegal charges against the two accused.

 

Koray Basdogrultmaci and Cinel Senem Husseyin, have been accused by the “authorities” of the pseudo-state in the occupied areas of the Republic of Cyprus for hanging flags of the Republic of Cyprus outside their house and shop in June 2014. They were charged of public order offences. The couple was arrested and jailed for a few hours on 21st June 2013.

 

The next “judicial proceedings” has been set for Wednesday, 13th May 2015.
