Government must not confine itself to issuing reassuring statements, but act preventively to avoid Cyprus’ involvement in dangerous imperialist games

At the same time as the Anastasiades-DISY government is declaring that Cyprus “isn’t engaged in the plans, nor is there any involvement” in the dangerous developments in our region, press reports in the British media note that there is a strong possibility that the British bases in Cyprus are going to be used for carrying out military operations in Syria .
Taking into account the British Prime Minister’s statements about Britain taking military action in Syria, the Cyprus government must not confine itself to issuing reassuring statements, but instead it must act preventively – politically and diplomatically – to avoid Cyprus’ involvement in dangerous imperialist games, which pose enormous dangers.
If not, there is the serious prospect that the government assurances will prove to be just meaningless and empty rhetoric.
