Government, DISY and the Attorney General will not avoid the truth about the wiretapping scandal

7 November 2022, AKEL C.C. Press Office, Nicosia

Following the revelations of the Greek newspaper “Documento”, the surveillance and interception scandal is assuming the form of an avalanche and causing a megaton earthquake in Greece, with the involvement of Cyprus in it becoming increasingly obvious. The Anastasiades government, the ruling DISY party and the Attorney General’s Office are deluded if they think they can avoid the truth by remaining silent. AKEL will not stop demanding answers:

  1. Why doesn’t the Attorney General’s Office not release the conclusion of the criminal investigator into the black spy van case? Does it not realise how exposed it is by the fact that Assistant Attorney General should never have handled the case due to a conflict of interest?
  2. Does the Anastasiades government realize that Cyprus had become the centre for the expansion of the wiretapping network in Greece, through the companies of the Israeli agents who were prominent in the black spy van case? What is its response to the proliferation of surveillance and wiretapping companies in Cyprus and to the uncontrolled activity of Israeli agents who have made our country a free-for-all open range?
  3. When will the ruling DISY party and Averof Neofytou answer for their real relations with the Israeli agents Avni and Dillian? Until when will he avoid responding to the reports and revelations from the Cypriot and foreign press that directly implicate him in the scandal?

The Cypriot people deserve to know by name who the masterminds and perpetrators of these sinister and dangerous para-state circles were. Those who organised, facilitated or covered up this network are a danger to the rule of law, democracy, human rights and our country’s national security.
