Fiscal Council reveals on-going recession and economy dire straits

Statement by Georgos Loucaides, AKEL C.C. Spokesperson

AKEL C.C. Press Office, 18th June 2015, Nicosia

Recession econ -Prepper-CentralThe Chairman of the Government-appointed Fiscal Council presenting the Council’s Spring Report did what was expected. That is to say, he spoke as the representative of the EU’s ruling circles in Cyprus. He spoke as the guardian of the anti-social and recessionary austerity policies and as the fervent preacher of the reactionary character of deregulations, which, just like the governing DISY party, they call reforms. Furthermore, the Council did not hide its desire to see Cyprus fully keeping to the scheduled timetable for Cyprus remaining under the yoke of the Memorandum.

However, we note as positive the inclusion in the Council’s Report of the the conclusion that our country is lagging far behind in Europe in terms of indexes relationg to the welfare state, that the Cyprus econmy remains in recession and as a consequence there is a greter need to provide support to the vulenarable groups of the population.
