EU Commission letter on golden passports is a slap in the Anastasiades-DISY government’s face

Statement by AKEL C.C. Spokesperson Stefanos Stefanou on the EU Commissioner for Justice’s letter on the golden passports issue

AKEL C.C. Press Office, 22nd October 2020, Nicosia

The letter from the European Commissioner for Justice to the Minister of Foreign Affairs on the issue of the golden passports is a slap of shame in the Anastasiades-DISY government’s face.

All the lies that the Anastasiades-DISY government used for years to defend the scandal it set up, are refuted in the most official way.

In ten pages of the letter the European Commission records the shameful truths about the investment program set up by the government.

Also shameful are the references in the letter to the groundless allegations made by the Anastasiades-DISY government for so many years.

It is obvious that the lies of the “innocent and clean” Mr. Anastasiades are over. Not only is the government’s passport scheme not the “best program in Europe” as the government ruling forces have been claiming for years, but it is a systematic sale of European citizenship and a hotbed of corruption and greed, as the European Commission identifies and points out.

That’s precisely why they kept it alive by every means for 7 years. That is why they are still preventing the Auditor General from carrying out his responsibilities and continuing the investigation that he has begun a few weeks ago.
