ECB-Government Claims don’t fool the people
Statement of Georgos Loucaides, AKEL C.C. Spokesperson
AKEL C.C. Press Office, 5th March 2015, Nicosia
In their statements issued yesterday the President of the European Central Bank Mario Draghi and President Anastasiades again attempted to portray the picture that the Cyprus economy is developing tremendously and indeed that Cyprus’ exit from the Memorandum is expected sooner than forecasted.
The mass and militant presence of many thousands of people in yesterday’s meeting outside the session of the European Central Bank’s Governing Council in Nicosia, as well as the overwhelming majority of the Cypriot people as demonstrated in the recent EUROSTAT researches, refute both Draghi and President Anastasiades since not only is the situation not developing as brightly as they claim, but on the contrary it is still really bad and that the conditions are going from bad to even worse.
Furthermore, all the talk about an early exit from the Memorandum do not fool anyone because the examples of other countries have in practice proved that the Memoranda may have come to an end technically, however they remain in force and the anti-social austerity policies and their terrible consequences for the peoples are being intensified.
