AKEL calls for people’s mass mobilisation

The C.C. of AKEL, which convened today 28th February to discuss issues related to the 22th Party Congress, decided to call on the people of Cyprus to participate with their mass and militant presence in the big pancyprian social mobilization being organised by 18 trade union and social organizations of the Platform “Society reacts and asserts.”
Our people’s gains and rights have for the last two years been under continuous attacks. Working people, the unemployed and low paid, pensioners and young people, single parents and large families, farmers and SME’s, are all feeling today to their bone the effects of the Memorandum and anti-social austerity policies. The European Central Bank was and is a key component part of this policy which the European Union is imposing on the peoples.
It is our deep conviction that through assertions and struggles, the Cypriot people can defend their labour and social rights, rejecting the dead-end path of the Memorandum.
The mobilization planned for the 4th March at 17:00 p.m. outside the Nicosia International Conference Hall “Filoxenia” is being organised on the occasion of the plenary session of the European Central Bank’s Governing Council in Cyprus which is one of the three institutions that make up the Troika.
