DISY, DIKO, EDEK, Solidarity and ELAM gave in to the employer’s demands against the protection of workers’ rights
Statement by Andreas Fakontis, AKEL-Left-New Forces MP and President of the House Standing Committee on Labour, Welfare and Social Insurance
AKEL C.C. Press Office, 11th December 2019, Nicosia
For two and a half years, the parliamentary parties of ruling DISY, Democratic Party DIKO, Socialdemocratic party EDEK, right-wing ‘Solidarity’ and ultra-right ELAM have been trying to prevent the approval of legislation for the establishment of a Single Inspection Service, giving in to the demands of the employers ‘organizations against the protection of working people’s rights.
Today the masks have come off!
With the approval of the amendment to cut funding for the Project for the Establishment and Functioning of the Single Inspection Service, DISY, DIKO, EDEK, ‘Solidarity’ and ELAM, have very clearly opposed the establishment of the Single Inspection Service, that would contribute to a more targeted combating of the phenomenon of undeclared work, and more effective protection of working people’s rights, such as the protection of wages, annual leave, working hours and rest, maternity leave, paternity leave and many other basic labour rights.
They have very clearly voted in favour of employer’s interests!
Let citizens judge them!!
