Cypriots pessimism about the future confirmed
Statement of Georgos Loucaides, AKEL C.C. Spokesperson

The date included in the latest “Eurobarometer” public opinion survey for autumn 2014 show that the government’s current policy is at a dead-end.
It is obvious that not only have the government’s policies not brought the notorious “spring”, but even worse is the finding that people do not believe that the future will get better. More specifically, 93% believe that the country’s economic situation is overall bad, which is the fourth worst indicator in the EU. What’s more, 2 out of 3 of our fellow citizens consider that the situation is set to worsen, an indicator which is the worst in the EU. In addition, we note that Cypriot society’s assessment of the future has deteriorated compared to the previous corresponding survey.
These indicators should concern the Government when it assesses the economy’s course today. So far, not only has the Government failed to address the major problems society is facing, but more and more of our fellow citizens are pessimistic about the future. Austerity policies will not give any hope for our country. Hope will be given by policies promoting growth and a fairer sharing of the burdens in society.
