Christodoulides and Letibiotis mustn’t hide behind Mrs. Komodromou
Statement by AKEL C.C. Spokesperson Giorgos Koukoumas
26 September 2023, AKEL C.C. Press Office, Nicosia
The fact that President Christodoulides and Government Spokesperson Letibiotis are hiding behind Deputy Government Spokesperson Mrs. Doxa Komodromou and her resignation reveals neither a high standard of political ethics, nor a sense of responsibility.
It is obvious that someone decided and approved the payment of overtime for the Deputy Government Spokesperson for attending, cocktails, funerals, memorials and charity events. Therefore, the issue is not confined to this particular official. Society expects answers. Indeed, we recall that none of this would have been revealed had AKEL not opposed in the Parliamentary Finance Committee the Presidency’s request to pay out the fund in question.
The government ruling forces are humiliating institutions. They are provoking society. They are handing out public money to chosen people and cronies, at the same time as society is suffocating. On top of all that, they are hiding from their responsibilities and the people themselves.
The only certainty is that with these practices, Mr. Christodoulides will surpass his teacher, Nicos Anastasiades.
