Any government inconsistency helps Turkey

Statements by AKEL Political Bureau member Chr. Christophides

4th November 2020, ‘Astra’ radio station

Any inconsistency on the part of the government in relation to the basis of the solution of the Cyprus problem will help Turkey, Tayyip Erdogan and Ersin Tatar, stressed the member of the Political Bureau of AKEL Christos Christofides. Speaking to the morning edition of ‘Astra’ radio station, he pointed out that it is clear, however, that there is a difference of opinion with regards the sought goal of the solution. He pointed out that the Greek Cypriot side must avoid the inconsistent policies/tactics pursued in recent years and that the talks should resume from where they had remained on the basis of the solution of Bi-Zonal, Bi-Communal Federation.

Chr. Christofides underlined that any maneuvering on the part of the Greek Cypriot side will lead with mathematical certainty to the imposition of partition and a two states solution in Cyprus. At the same time, he stated that the UN and Europe should exercise their influence to help change the stand of Turkey and Ersin Tatar. At the same time, the AKEL Political Bureau member stated that AKEL will await to be briefed officially by President Anastasiades about yesterday’s meeting between Anastasiades-Tatar.
