Anastasiades’ policy led to a stalemate as it followed the “new strategy” of DIKO
AKEL C.C. Spokesperson Stefanos Stefanou replies to DIKO President Nicolas Papadopoulos
AKEL C.C. Press Office, 19 May 2019
Mr. Anastasiades’ policy on the Cyprus problem has led to a stalemate because at the most critical moment the President adopted the so-called “new strategy” of DIKO party. It is this policy that has relieved Turkey of responsibilities and apportioned responsibilities on the Greek Cypriot side for the protracted deadlock.
The so-called “new strategy”, to which the President has unfortunately joined, is leading us to the perpetuation of the de facto situation and nowhere else.
We agree with the President of DIKO about the content and results of the Anastasiades – DISY government’s neoliberal policies.
However, we remind Mr. Papadopoulos that, the leadership of DIKO acted as a bastion of support and backed the majority of anti-social policies which the government ruling forces has imposed.
It voted for bills for foreclosures, the selloff of the Cyprus Cooperative Bank and public organisations and public property, and many more.
Everyone in politics is judged by his/her decisions and actions, not by declarations.
