Anastasiades must use every possibility to move developments towards the resumption of the negotiations
Statement by Stefanos Stefanou, AKEL C.C. Spokesperson
AKEL C.C. Press Office, 25th September 2017, Nicosia
The stalemate in which the Cyprus problem has entered, was confirmed after the separate meetings the United Nations Secretary-General had with the President of the Republic and the Turkish Cypriot leader.
This stagnation situation harbors very serious dangers to Cyprus and our people. The stalemate is accompanied by the policy of consolidating the partition and the incorporation of the occupied areas which Turkey is pursuing, without the occupying power paying any political costs, given that it left Crans Montana relieved of any responsibilities due to the erroneous handlings of the President of the Republic Mr. Anastasiades.
In view of the fact that the UN Secretary-General – through his spokesperson – reiterated his readiness for the talks to resume as soon as the two sides demonstrate their readiness to re-engage and given the Turkish side’s negativity, Mr. Anastasiades must in a serious way and beyond his pre-election considerations deal with the Cyprus problem, making use of every possibility and grounds of support for developments to move towards the resumption of the negotiations.
